Facebook introduced Lite app for its social network back in 2015 and Messenger Lite for its messaging service two months ago, so the most logical thing was to launch Instagram Lite. The waiting is over, and the photo-centric social media is on Google Play with a smaller package size and less clutter.
Instagram Lite lacks some of the features that can be found in the regular app, but hardly disrupts the overall experience. It still has the curated stream of photos, all the filters, the ability to watch and post Stories and to follow and be followed. The app comes in a 573 kB package, which is more than 50 times smaller than the 32 MB size of the original Instagram app.
However, with Instagram Lite you cannot send and receive Direct messages, and when someone is texting you, it will not appear anywhere. The newly unveiled IGTV feature that allows verified users to post up to 60 minutes of video is also non-existent. The new search tabs are missing, and the whole Search engine does not have Suggestions.
The Like tab shows who engaged with your content - the Following section is missing, so you can’t stalk what other people have liked. On your own page, you are not able to create collections of Stories or rewatch old ones. Also, only the three-in-a-row setup for watching your posts is available.
