Week 36 in review: IFA week brings a myriad of announcements

Welcome to your personal recap of a very, very busy week in the world of tech. This week saw the IFA trade show's biggest announcements - while the show technically started on September 6, a number of smartphone announcements happened on the days before that.

Here's a list of the many announcements of the week, which include the Kirin 990, vivo Z1x, LG G8X ThinQ, Moto E6 Plus and One Zoom, Nokia 7.2 and 6.2, Huawei Enjoy 10 Plus, and many many more. We'll be focusing on the biggest announcements in the paragraphs to follow.

Samsung announced the Galaxy A90 5G and officially relaunched the Galaxy Fold. Interestingly, the company cancelled all the previous pre-orders it had for the Galaxy Fold but compensated eager early adopters with store credit.

A final note on Samsung - it's much-anticipated Galaxy M30s and its 6,000mAh battery will go official on September 18.

Sony announced the Xperia 5 - a 6.1-inch FHD+ compact variant of the Xperia 1 - it will begin pre-orders next week and is expected to start shipping in October.

Nokia unveiled two smartphones and a bunch of feature phones. The Nokia 7.2 and 6.2 bring HDR10 displays, triple cameras, recognizable Nokia resign and Android One software. The Nokia 7.2 will go on sale at the end of September, priced at €300, while the Nokia 6.2 comes out in October, starting at €200.

Android 10 came out this week. Google's Pixel 3 was the first to get it but was joined almost immediately by the likes of the Redmi K20 Pro and Essential Phone.

We had our first real good look at the Huawei Mate 30 Pro, thanks to official-looking press renders. Huawei confrimed that it will unveil its Mate 30 lineup on September 19 in Munich.

Huwei also made its Kirin 990 chipset official with an integrated 5G modem and added two new colors to the Huawei P30 Pro - Misty Lavender and Mystic Blue.

LG made its G8X ThinQ official. It adds a bigger display with an in-display fingerprint scanner, new 32MP selfie camera and larger 4,000mAh battery to the existing G8. It also comes with an updated Dual Screen accessory.
