NVIDIA has announced two new graphics cards for the PC in the mid-range price category, the GTX 1660 SUPER and the GTX 1650 SUPER. Both these cards will compete with the upcoming RX 5500 series of graphics cards from AMD.
The GTX 1660 SUPER is the card launching today through board partners. The GTX 1660 SUPER is an evolution of the GTX 1660 launched earlier this year, although it won't be replacing it and will slot between the GTX 1660 and the GTX 1660 Ti.
The GTX 1660 SUPER packs in the same 1408 CUDA cores as the GTX 1660 and the same 1530MHz base and 1785MHz boost clock speeds. The only difference between the two is the use of faster and higher clocked 14Gbps GDDR6 memory on the GTX 1660 SUPER as compared to 8Gbps GDDR5 on the GTX 1660. NVIDIA claims this makes the GTX 1660 SUPER 20% faster than the GTX 1660 and 1.5x faster than the GTX 1060 6GB.
On paper, at least, the GTX 1660 SUPER is still beaten by the GTX 1660 Ti, which has more CUDA cores (1536) but that may not be enough to distance itself from the GTX 1660 SUPER, considering the GTX 1660 Ti already wasn't significantly faster than the standard GTX 1660. The GTX 1660 SUPER also has higher clocked memory.
Next is the GTX 1650 SUPER, which has more CUDA cores (1280) vs the GTX 1650 (896). It also has higher base clock at 1665MHz and higher boost clock at 1485MHz. The GTX 1650 SUPER also comes with faster 12Gbps GDDR6 memory, although it's still limited to 4GB. NVIDIA says all of this makes the GTX 1650 SUPER 50% faster than the GTX 1650 and 2x faster than the GTX 1050.
The GTX 1660 SUPER is going on sale today through board partners, including ASUS, Colorful, EVGA, Gainward, Galaxy, Gigabyte, Innovision 3D, MSI, Palit, PNY and Zotac with a starting price of $229.
The GTX 1650 SUPER will be available on November 22, which is also when we will learn the pricing for that model.
