ZTE sets Axon 30 5G global launch for September 9, will be asking $500/€500/£430 for one

ZTE unveiled the Axon 30 5G last month, the phone that flaunts its second-generation under display camera. A few days later the company tentatively set the global launch date for September, now it committed to a more exact date – the phone will be available in multiple countries around the world on September 9.

ZTE sets Axon 30 5G global launch for September 9, will be asking $500/€500/£430 for one

The 8/128 GB version will come with a $500 price tag in the US, €500 in Europe and £430 in the UK. If you prefer the higher-specced model, the one with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB storage, that one will be $600/€600/£520.

You will be able to pick up a unit from the company’s official web store. Here is the complete list of countries where the phone will be available:

Europe: Austria, Belgium, Latvia, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Croatia, Luxembourg, Cyprus, Malta, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Denmark, Estonia, Portugal, Finland, Romania, Slovakia, Germany, Slovenia, Greece, Hungary, Sweden, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Poland, France, United Kingdom

North America: United States, Canada

Asia-Pacific: Australia, Singapore, Indonesia, Macao SAR China, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, Republic of Korea, Hong Kong SAR China, Thailand, Ukraine,

Middle East: Israel, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait

Africa: South Africa

What makes this phone unique is the 16 MP selfie camera, which disappears behind the display. It has a sensor with 1.12 µm pixels, which can grow to 2.24 µm after 4-in-1 binning. ZTE developed its own algorithm for the best processing of selfies shot through the display.

The display itself is quite special. ZTE found a way to retain the full pixel density of 400 ppi or so above the camera, matching the rest of the display. The display is structured so as to allow more light to reach the camera while making the area above the camera less noticeable. As for the display itself, it is a 6.92” AMOLED panel with 1080p+ resolution (20.5:9), 120 Hz refresh and 360 Hz touch sampling rates. It has a 10-bit matrix with 100% DCI-P3 coverage.

Note that the ZTE Axon 30 5G is powered by a Snapdragon 870 chipset rather than an 888 like the Axon 30 Pro and 30 Ultra. Also, the rear camera is more basic with a 64 MP (1/1.73”) main sensor, 8 MP ultra wide, 5 MP macro and 2 MP depth sensor.
