We have no shortage of mid-range smartphones these days, but this is not your usual €300 smartphone. The Motorola Defy 2021 is a rugged device that can take a lot of abuse while still offering adequate smartphone experience.
We already published the written review, and now the video review is live on our YouTube channel.
The body and build quality of this phone is its selling point - it has a rubber-like protective back that also goes around the frame. It may look unusual, but it feels exactly like any other phone with a bulky protective case.
The front panel has Gorilla Glass Victus protection over the otherwise basic 6.5” HD+ screen with waterdrop notch and thick bezels. Motorola made the phone compliant with the IP68 and MIL-SPEC 810H ratings, meaning it survive water, dust, drops from up to 1.8m meteres, salt mist and extreme temperatures.
Sadly, out of the three cameras on the back, only one significantly contributing to the user experience. The Snapdragon 662 chipset is no powerhouse and the OS, albeit clean, is still Android 10. We can clearly see where Motorola decided to shave off specs in order to reach a €300 price tag. In the end, however the Defy is a unique proposition and an easy recommendation for consumers with a particular profile.
