While the Redmi brand has expanded in multiple directions, its core is still the vanilla series, which focuses on value for money. The brand new Redmi 10 tries to excel in that area with a number of major upgrades, including several firsts.
This is the first phone in the series to have a high refresh rate display – a 6.5” 1080p” LCD (20:9) that can run at up to 90Hz (with 60Hz and 45Hz modes too). This is also the first phone to use the new Helio G88 chipset from MediaTek, a tweaked version of the G85 that enables the higher refresh rate at 1080p+ resolution.
Another win for the Redmi 10 is the 50MP main camera – the highest resolution in the series yet (the Redmi Notes go higher, of course, but they cost more too). This camera is paired with an 8MP ultrawide module, a 2MP macro cam and a 2MP depth sensor. The front-facing camera is inside a punch hole and has an 8MP sensor.
The series is known for having larger than average batteries and this model is no exception – the 5,000 mAh battery supports 18W wired charging and 9W reverse wireless charging. Despite being a budget model, this phone comes with a 22.5W charger in the box.
And it has other goodies too, like dual speakers and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It has a fingerprint reader mounted on the side and the selfie camera can do face unlock. There is some bad news, however, the microSD slot has gone missing.
The phone runs Android 11 with MIUI 12.5 out of the box. You can pick from three colors: Carbon Gray, Pebble White, Sea Blue. There’s no word of a Pro model or other variations yet.
The Redmi 10 will be available in Carbon Gray, Pebble White and Sea Blue
The base Xiaomi Redmi 10 has 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage, but there will be 4/128GB and 6/128GB options. These will cost $180, $200 and $220, respectively, availability is set for August 20.
Based on reports from China, the new phone will arrive in Malaysia first at a price of MYR650 (which converts to around $155). The 6/128GB model will be MYR 750 and the middle option will not be available.
